Norman
Buchbinder (1922-2007)
The late Norman Buchbinder, along with his friend and colleague, Gene Warren, founded Buchbinder & Warren Realty Group over five decades ago with nothing more than a simple, honest handshake. Over the years, their business acumen, along with a passion for working in New York City, resulted in a vibrant, full-service real estate entity whose name is synonymous with integrity and service. In business over 40 years, the firm has become a tight-knit family whose focus is to serve their tenants and clients in hope of always maximizing their real estate experience.
One of Norman’s greatest strengths was his eagerness to solve problems quickly and efficiently, whether it pertained to a client or one of our employees. Always accessible, his ability to listen and patience in resolving issues helped create a business environment within our firm where trusting relationships are the highest priority.
Norman’s legacy is apparent in other ways. When our company takes over the management of a building, you can be sure that our staff provides the same high-level attention and service that would occur if the property were owned by Norman himself. Whether buying, developing, or managing properties--for our firm or for others--Norman executed everything with enthusiasm and integrity.
As one of our employees recently said of him, “It was Norman who inspired me to do the best that I could do.”
Another of Norman’s skills, and Gene’s too, was their ability to spot opportunities. One of the early proponents of converting residential properties to cooperative and condominium ownership, something Norman believed would stabilize neighborhoods, he had an impact on New York City’s real estate industry that will be felt for decades.
As a founding member of the 14th Street Business Improvement District, the first Business Improvement District (BID) in the city, Norman helped rejuvenate the business and cultural life in Union Square. He was also the founder of the Village Alliance, which is the Eighth Street BID.
The City has established several annual awards in his honor, including most recently when the City Council of New York voted to name a section of historic Eighth St. in his name.
In every way, Norman Buchbinder has left an enduring mark within our company and with the countless people he touched and influenced during his lifetime. We also see that his extensive efforts to improve New York’s streets and neighborhoods reflected a deep commitment to a city he clearly loved.

Warren
Gene Warren, a founding partner with his friend and colleague, the late Norman Buchbinder, is totally engaged in every facet of Buchbinder & Warren Realty Group. From the very beginning, Gene’s thoughtful diligence helped establish our firm as a highly-regarded resource providing a full range of real estate services in New York City. A personable, client-conscious businessman, Gene has built his and our company’s reputation on providing nothing less than exceptional professionalism to all our clients.
A consummate negotiator, Gene has an enormous amount of personal experience, having brokered thousands of deals worth hundreds of millions of dollars. As both a leader and mentor, he has helped guide our firm through significant changes in the city’s evolution, and has kept abreast of new practices, policies or procedures impacting the real estate industry.
Today, Gene, along with Lori and Susan Buchbinder, oversee the brokerage operations of Buchbinder & Warren Realty. That includes management of more than one hundred residential buildings, several thousand residential units, and over one hundred retail stores.
Gene is the essence of what makes Buchbinder & Warren unique—it’s all about people, all of the time. Along with his co-founder, Norman, they managed to integrate each other’s skills to establish a firm that would be as honest and sincere in its business dealings as the hand shake that sealed their personal and professional commitment. This is what we stand for at Buchbinder & Warren, and we are proud to carry this tradition forward every day in every deal.
A man with robust community spirit, Gene and his family continue to support various fundraising programs and philanthropic activities in New York City and Long Island.
